What is an M3U playlist and how do you use it? (explained)

What is an M3U playlist?

An M3U list is a text file (or link) containing all your channels: the names, groups and stream addresses. Virtually every IPTV app can read an M3U link. Your provider gives you a URL that starts with http:// and usually contains parameters such as type=m3u_plus for logos and EPG.

M3U vs Xtream Codes

Xtream Codes = 3 separate details (URL + user + password). Automatic EPG, easiest for beginners.
M3U = one long link. Works everywhere (also in players like VLC), but you have to add the EPG separately. Many providers give both; Xtream is preferable.

Adding M3U in popular apps

• Smart IPTV (SIPTV): log in at siptv.app with your MAC address → paste the M3U link → Save → restart the app.
• TiviMate: Settings → Add playlist → M3U URL → paste the link.
• VLC (PC): Media → Open Network Stream → paste the M3U link.
• Hot IPTV / IBO Player: choose M3U during setup and paste the link.

Fixing M3U problems

• No channels: check that the link was copied completely (especially long links with & characters).
• EPG is wrong: add a separate EPG URL if your app asks for one (your provider supplies it).
• “Invalid playlist”: your subscription may have expired or your list is already linked to another account.
