What is EPG and why does it matter?
EPG (Electronic Program Guide) is the programme guide in your IPTV app: the names, times and descriptions of the programmes. Without EPG you only see channel names. An empty or wrong guide is frustrating, but almost always easy to fix.
Why your EPG is empty (the 4 most common causes)
- EPG URL missing: with M3U playlists you need to add the EPG link separately (your provider supplies it).
- App just started: loading the EPG for large lists sometimes takes 1-5 minutes. Be patient and restart the app.
- Time difference (UTC): the guide is in GMT/UTC while you are in NL/BE — then the times are off by 1-2 hours.
- Outdated playlist: your app is loading an old guide. Refresh the playlist/EPG.
Fixing EPG in the most popular apps
- TiviMate: Settings → Playlists → Update EPG. Then set auto-update to 12 hours. Read the TiviMate guide.
- IBO Player (Samsung): restart the TV, open IBO and wait — or remove and re-add your playlist.
- Hot IPTV (LG): remove the playlist and add it again with the EPG link included.
- IPTV Smarters: Settings → EPG → Update EPG. See the Smarters guide.
- Smart IPTV (MAC): log in at siptv.app and add the EPG URL under your playlist.
Step by step: adding EPG manually with M3U
- Ask your provider for the EPG URL (or look for it in the welcome email — often a link with xmltv in the name).
- Open your IPTV app’s settings and find the EPG / XMLTV / Programme guide field.
- Paste the EPG URL and save.
- Refresh the guide (button or restart) and wait up to 5 minutes.
Frequently asked questions about EPG
Why are the programme times wrong?
The guide is on UTC time. In your app set the timezone to GMT+1 (NL/BE winter) or GMT+2 (summer), or turn on ‘Auto offset’.
Can I make an EPG link myself?
Not easily — EPG files (XMLTV) are maintained by your provider. Ask your provider for the correct link.
EPG works in one app but not another?
Then the problem is in that app’s settings — some apps require the EPG URL to be added separately.
Does restarting the TV help?
Yes — with Samsung/LG apps a full restart (unplug for 30 sec) often fixes EPG problems.
